Aircraft De-icing
De-icing job management on a tablet
We helped Vestergaard bring aircraft de-icing into one digital flow — a tablet app where a ramp crew creates a job, reads unit data, handles temperature and zone information, runs the treatment, and keeps a traceable record of what was done.

vestergaardcompany.comThe short version
Vestergaard makes aircraft de-icing and ground support equipment used at airports worldwide. We worked with them on a tablet app that brings de-icing job management into a single digital flow — create a job, read unit data, run the treatment, and record what was done.
The Challenge
De-icing happens on the ramp, in bad weather, under time pressure — and it has to be documented
Ground teams track aircraft and job data, fluid usage, temperatures, which unit is assigned where, the state of each job, and the record of past ones. When that runs on paper or across disconnected tools, it slows the team down when they can least afford it, and it leaves gaps in the record.
Airports keep asking for more documentation around de-icing. Vestergaard already addresses that on the data side with its Data Transmission System, which records and processes operational de-icing data. What the ramp crews needed was a way to capture and manage the job itself, on a device that works in the field.
What we built
One tablet interface a crew can use on the ramp
The operational pieces pulled into a single flow — from getting into the job, to running it, to keeping working when the signal drops.
Users log in, get their unit and user context, and select the de-icing unit they're working with. From there they see unit information and health data, so the crew knows the state of the equipment before they start.
A crew member creates a job from the aircraft details, then works a guided flow: treatment steps, aircraft parts treated, fluids used, notes, and complete/cancel logic. Temperature and zone data live inside that flow. A job list shows what's active; job history keeps completed records.
Ramp work can't depend on a stable signal, so the app keeps working offline for the actions that can't wait — create and edit jobs, start a job, run the workflow, and log events. Local storage holds it until the connection returns, and that logging gives a traceable record.

Job workflow
Guided execution: steps, body parts, fluids, notes, complete/cancel.
Job history
Completed records, notes, and past operations.
Offline / local DB logic
Offline-supported job creation, editing, start, workflow, and logs.
Event / logging support
Operational traceability for actions and job states.
Product
The app on the ramp

At position — aircraft zones, flight data, and treatment checklist

Ready to spray — coordinator status and de-icing prep

Spray in progress — propeller treatment with fluid and hot-time data

Job wrap-up — fluid usage totals and completed treatment steps
The Result
A structured flow a ramp team can follow
The app replaces scattered, manual job handling with a structured flow. Crews get faster access to job, unit, temperature, and history data in one place, and the operational record is easier to trace. It fits alongside Vestergaard's wider DTS data-collection setup, and leaves room to add deeper workflow support, better offline handling, or reporting later.
Replaces scattered, manual job handling with a structured tablet workflow.
Faster access to job, unit, temperature, and history data.
Improves traceability of aircraft de-icing operations.
Aligns field operations with Vestergaard's broader DTS ecosystem.
Keeps working offline for ramp actions that can't wait.
Scalable base for future workflow, offline, and reporting improvements.
